Thanks to some very generous funding support from B&CE Charitable Trust, Gatwick Airport Community Trust, CPL Group and Shanly Foundation a new construction facility is being built to give students valuable skills to help them transition into adulthood and the workplace. The provision will be made available to all students in Key Stage 4 with scope to offer it to our younger students over time.
The new facility will enable us to diversify our curriculum and deliver maths and English skills via construction, helping to engage students in their wider learning. The new area will deliver social and emotional benefits such as encouraging team work, self-confidence and improved concentration.
Our vocational curriculum pathway in Key Stage 4, we will be diversified offering accreditations in construction, focusing on brick laying, plastering and basic carpentry. These options appeal to a large proportion of our cohort due to their practical nature and tangible results.
Students will not only learn skills to gain employment in the construction industry, but also the ability to manage their own homes in the future, since many do not have DIY experience in the home.
Thank you to our funders for your support – your kindness will have a huge impact on students at Unified Academy.
