Student brings history to life with Vietnam war jungle model
A student has brought history to life by creating an impressive model of the Vietnamese jungle as part of his learning about the Vietnam War.
During English lessons, students explored the background to the conflict, including why the war broke out, how long it lasted and the tactics used by the Viet Cong. Inspired by his learning, the student designed and built a detailed model showing how the jungle environment was used strategically during the war.
The model features a variety of hidden traps and an underground tunnel system, demonstrating how the Viet Cong were able to launch surprise attacks on US soldiers. As well as the military elements, the student also included underground kitchens, living quarters and even hospitals, highlighting how entire communities lived and worked beneath the jungle floor.
Belle Thomas, Principal at Unified Academy praised the project, saying: “This model is a fantastic example of how creative work can deepen students’ understanding of history. It shows excellent effort and attention to detail, as well as an understanding of how people lived and survived during a significant period of world history.”
