Year 10/ 11 students, led by Kyle and Jesse, were keen to organise a bake sale to raise money towards a commemorative bench to remember their friend and fellow student Josh, who sadly passed away from cancer in 2017. They used a unit of their AQA Baking course to provided inspiration, it required them to research and produce eight different bakes. Students worked hard to make an amazing selection of sweet and savoury treats for sale.
In preparation for the event, students transformed the large kitchen into a function room – hanging up bunting and setting up tables to present their bakes. Year 10 student, Michael put together a heart-warming PowerPoint presentation to celebrate and remember Josh, which was played throughout.
The event was a huge success and a great achievement, made all the more special by the boys taking responsibility for the whole event. They had a great idea and saw it through, from the baking and setting up, to the selling and counting up the proceeds – which were in excess of £300. They are now in the process of finding a bench and thinking about the words for the personalised plaque.
