Our New Outdoor Classroom: Learning Under the Canopy

We are thrilled to share the news of our brand-new outdoor learning classroom – a large yurt nestled in the wooded area of our school grounds. This exciting addition is part of our ongoing commitment to enhance outdoor provision and provide enriching, hands-on learning experiences for our students.

The yurt offers a weatherproof, comfortable environment that perfectly complements our outdoor education curriculum. Inside, students can gather on wooden benches around a central fire pit, creating a unique and inspiring space for both creative and traditional lessons.

Since its opening, the yurt has quickly become a favourite among students. They’ve been enjoying the freedom of learning in nature, viewing lessons in the yurt as a special treat. Activities have included observing local wildlife, building simple structures, and taking part in shelter-making projects. These experiences are already enriching students’ understanding across subjects such as Geography, Science, and Design Technology.

Looking ahead, students are excited to expand their outdoor skills – particularly in building and maintaining supervised fires. With our yurt now at the heart of our outdoor learning programme, we look forward to many more adventures in the great outdoors!
