We welcomed Lilly, the therapy dog and her trainer Angela, to Unified Academy this week.
They are part of the Canine Assisted Wellbeing Group (CAWG) which is dedicated to improving the mental health, emotional wellbeing and literacy of young people through professional canine support.
Lilly and Angela, will be supporting students with strategies for staying calm, reducing anxiety, and helping others with their reading in a calm and relaxed environment. Students can enjoy one to one or small group sessions, where they can play with, stroke, talk and read with Lilly.
The first students to meet the therapy dog said that spending time with Lilly, made them feel, “happy and relaxed”.
Canine assisted therapy sessions will take place five times a week, we will keep you up to date with their progress.
