Personal Development

Personal Development sessions are offered to all students in years 7 -11 with varied on and off-site activities that focus on developing key social, creative, digital, physical, cultural and cognitive skills and awareness in order to build independence, resilience and character.  Personal Development sessions aim to enhance the curriculum offer and extend beyond the academic through offering broad and varied activities that allow students to engage positively with the wider community, experiencing a sense of belonging and supporting students to become responsible and active citizens. Sessions promote students spiritual, moral, social and cultural development as well as building on student’s awareness of fundamental British values such as democracy, individual liberty, rule of law, respect and tolerance.  Opportunities for students to be reflective, to learn, to behave with integrity and to cooperate consistently with others are imbedded within all sessions. Students are able to sign up for Personal Development sessions for 6 week periods, gaining an AQA Unit Award Certificate at the end of the course.  Examples of Personal Development sessions run include:

  • French taster sessions
  • Orienteering
  • Dorking Community Visits
  • Swimming
  • Outdoor Skills
  • First Aid
  • Golf
  • Stem Science
