Well-being

At Unified Academy students will learn about key elements that can contribute to their mental and physical well-being. Fostering a safe and secure environment, to have honest and open discussions, around their own and others well-being. The use of the dedicated timetabled slot, feeds into the whole of the student’s day, where conversations are ongoing and valued.

Students are empowered to recognise areas of concern, with the support of the adults around them. They will consider different types of mental ill-health, including anxiety, which may be identified using zones of regulation. Developing upon the skills to talk about their emotions, feelings and how different moods and behaviour may have an impact upon their well-being and that of others, creating a positive growth mind-set.  A focus on positive relationships, sensible eating and sleeping well are also integral parts of their well-being and are taught accordingly. Students will investigate the links between physical and mental health and understand how 60 minutes of exercise each day can enhance their sense of well-being.

My son joined Unified Academy in September 2020 and it is the best educational setting for him.  As a parent, I was apprehensive about my son attending a new place, but the experience for him has been fantastic. Having had a tough time in previous schools, his attitude to attending school has been difficult. Unified Academy has changed his attitude towards school and that is thanks to the positivity of all the staff.  My son finally feels accepted and that is a great weight off my shoulders!
