Equality & Diversity

Unified Academy are committed to creating an inclusive environment, where people are treated with dignity and respect and where we anticipate and respond positively to different needs and circumstances so that everyone can achieve their potential.

We believe that everyone has the right to be treated fairly and without discrimination, regardless of their circumstances or background and to be appreciated for their genuine self.  In particular we make sure that all our policies and practice prevent discrimination against someone on the grounds of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation.

We will consult and involve the school community, especially those who maybe affected by inequality in our planning and decision making. Those affected by inequality could include students, parents and carers, staff or visitors. We are aware that it is essential to ensure that decisions regarding equality and diversity are approached with sensitivity and awareness of the individual needs of our students. To support a meaningful approach regarding these important issues, the school will take into account the specific challenges and perspectives of our students. This may involve having discussions with our students, parents and staff, as required, as well as using creative and inclusive methods such as emotional literacy support counselling or wellbeing type approaches and initiatives as needed. By creating a safe and supportive environment for open dialogue, we can collaboratively address issues of equality and diversity in a way that respects the diverse experiences and backgrounds of our school community.
